Colonial Motel

We have stayed 3 times and our experience has always been great. We have always felt welcomed. Rooms are very clean and very cozy.

We just booked our 4th stay at the Colonial Motel. It truly is like staying at a friend's cottage. You're far enough out of town that it's quiet, but close enough to get in to town for breakfast. We prefer one of the cottage kitchenettes, but have stayed in the main building as well as up on the hill. It's cozy and comfortable. No breakfast is provided, but there are many excellent breakfast places within a 10 minute drive. One of the things I love about this area is that there is a lack of corporate chains and franchises (except in lodging...grrr). So your meals are going to be at a family-owned diner, a beautiful lakeside setting, or a small-town pizzeria. And so many choices for your nightly ice cream! We're looking forward to the Fly In Breakfast on July 4th, a home-town parade, a kayak rental, hiking in one of the many state parks nearby, and visiting friends and family. You don't need a big city to keep busy, Penn Yan has so much to offer. And the Colonial Motel is right in the center, making it the perfect spot for a relaxing & comfortable vacation.

This is a great family place. Clean and with great owners. If you don't want to feel like you are staying at a generic corporate run place you'll really enjoy staying here.

The hotel is decent for the area with the second floor rooms getting a small view of the lake from the balcony. The rooms themselves are clean but in need of modernization in regards to things like the tv, curtains, and bedding. The owner lives on-site and thus it is easy to address any issues. There is ac in the form of a window unit. When we first arrived there were 7-10 yellow jackets in the room so that wasn't comforting. But, since we've been here a couple night only a few have popped up in the bathroom. There's so many spiders webs on the porch outside. So much so that it makes the available seating on the porch impossible due to the discarded insects from the webs. For the area it's cheap and fairly clean so you can't really beat it. It's about a 5 minute drive from downtown Penn Yan and a 2 minute drive from the local park with swimming access.

This is truly a gem of a motel! The rooms are clean and neat and the kitchenettes are perfect for those who don't like to eat out all the time. The owners are the friendliest and most accommodating people. It's relaxing to sit on the porch and enjoy the view of the lake. The owner even gave my husband and me a tour of the most recently renovated rooms, which are totally cute with fresh paint and lake themed decor. You can't go wrong staying here, highly recommend.

The feel of the Colonial Motel is comfortingly rustic. The rooms have wood furniture, there's quilts on the beds, and a cozy kitchenette. The owner devotes a lot of time to groundskeeping, maintenance, but always has a smile for guests. The outside patio overlooks the lake and the view is amazing.

My husband and I always enjoy our stay at the Colonial Motel. The rooms are kept clean, the lake view is breathtaking and the hosts go above and beyond. Highly recommend!

Very good experience. Rooms are comfortable. Had a super late check-in and they accommodated us graciously. All stays at the Colonial have been good experiences.

Wow the owners went out of way to help and make us comfortable. It's affordable with any budget and a cozy get away. Night time we sat down at the fire pit and the owners make everyone feel like family. Thank you again Danny & Nancy.

We enjoyed our two night stay at this rustic, 1960s style motel on the shores of a beautiful lake in the Finger Lakes region of New York. The owners and managers are great and friendly people. The rooms have kitchenettes and there is a place to barbecue and mingle in the front. Certainly much different than the newer more modern chain motels, but definitely well worth it if you want to secluded and fun location.
